Baked Beef Spaghetti

Pasta has a way of bringing comfort and joy to any meal, and among all the pasta varieties, spaghetti holds a special place in everyone’s heart. As delightful as it is, though, it can sometimes be a bit tricky to eat without making a mess.

That’s why baked spaghetti is such a game-changer. This delicious dish takes a classic favorite and elevates it. Baked in the oven and served in slices, it transforms those long, messy noodles into perfectly manageable portions, all wrapped in a flavorful sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes.

When it comes to red sauces, homemade always steals the show—and it’s easier than you might think! The key to a richly flavored sauce lies in using whole, canned San Marzano tomatoes. Though they may cost a bit more, these tomatoes are worth every penny, offering a taste that truly enhances your dish.

Ingredients

IngredientQuantity
Spaghetti1 (1-lb) box
Olive oil2 Tbsp
White onion (finely chopped)1
Garlic (minced)3 cloves
Ground beef1 lb
Salt and pepperTo taste
Italian seasoning1 tsp
San Marzano tomatoes1 (28-oz) can
Fresh basil (chopped)1/2 cup
Shredded mozzarella1 cup
Grated Parmesan1/4 cup
Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)Optional

Preparation

  1. Preheat Oven: Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions, then drain and set it aside.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté for about 5 minutes until they begin to turn translucent.
    • Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute. Add the ground beef, along with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook until the meat is browned, approximately 8 minutes.
    • In a medium bowl, crush the San Marzano tomatoes by hand. Pour the tomatoes and their juice into the skillet with the beef. Simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from heat. Mix in the chopped basil.
  3. Combine: Toss the spaghetti with the sauce, adjusting the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
  4. Assemble and Bake: If your skillet isn’t large enough, transfer the mixture to a casserole dish. Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan evenly over the top. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden-brown.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Top with fresh parsley and serve warm. Enjoy your flavorful, comforting baked spaghetti!
