🍽️ Ingredients

For the Filling

  • Ground beef – 1 lb
  • Italian sausage (spicy or mild) – ½ lb
  • Sliced pepperoni – 1 cup (approx. 20 slices)
  • Medium onion, diced – 1
  • Green bell pepper, diced (optional) – 1
  • Garlic cloves, minced – 2
  • Tomato sauce – 1 can (15 oz)
  • Dried oregano – 1 tsp
  • Dried basil – 1 tsp
  • Red pepper flakes (optional) – ½ tsp
  • Salt and black pepper – To taste
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese – 2 cups (divided)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (optional) – 1 cup
  • Refrigerated pie crust or pizza dough – 1

For Garnish

  • Chopped fresh parsley – As desired
  • Crushed red pepper flakes or Parmesan – Optional

🔥 Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat to 375°F (190°C).
  • Lightly grease a deep 9-inch pie or baking dish.

2. Cook the Filling

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef and sausage over medium-high heat for 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  • Add onion, bell pepper (if using), and garlic. Cook until softened, about 3–5 minutes.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, oregano, basil, pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Assemble the Pie

  • Line the prepared dish with the pie crust or rolled-out pizza dough, pressing it up the sides.
  • Sprinkle half the mozzarella (and cheddar if using) over the bottom.
  • Add the meat mixture in an even layer.
  • Top with pepperoni slices.
  • Sprinkle remaining cheese over the top.

4. Bake

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  • For extra browning, broil for 1–2 minutes—keep a close eye on it.

5. Serve

  • Let the pie rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley, Parmesan, or chili flakes if desired.
  • Serve warm, paired with a fresh salad or garlic bread.

💡 Tips for Best Results

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh garlic and herbs make a noticeable difference.
  • Customize the Protein: Swap in turkey, chicken, or a vegetarian alternative.
  • Boost the Flavor: Add mushrooms, olives, or caramelized onions for extra depth.
  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave until warmed through.
