Make the Cake:

  1. Heat the Liquid Mixture:
In a medium saucepan, combine the Coca-Cola, oil, butter, and cocoa powder. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until smooth and fully melted.
  2. Mix the Dry Base:
In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. Slowly pour the hot cocoa-cola mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until well blended.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients:
Beat in the eggs, buttermilk, baking soda, and vanilla extract. Mix until the batter is smooth and uniform.
  4. Bake the Cake:
Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9×13-inch baking dish. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool Briefly:
Remove the cake from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before adding the frosting.

Prepare the Frosting:

  1. Make the Chocolate Base:
In a small saucepan, melt the butter with cocoa powder and milk over medium heat, stirring until smooth.
  2. Finish the Frosting:
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Gradually add the powdered sugar, whisking until thick, glossy, and lump-free.
  3. Frost While Warm:
Pour and spread the warm frosting over the slightly cooled cake. Allow to set at room temperature before slicing and serving.
