This Swedish Apple Cake is a moist and tender dessert, bursting with warm spices and juicy apples, topped with a rich, buttery caramel glaze. It’s a comforting and elegant treat, perfect for fall get-togethers or a cozy afternoon indulgence.

Swedish Apple Cake
Ingredients

Cake:

Salt1 teaspoon
Ground cinnamon1 ½ teaspoons

Peeled and diced apples (~2 large)3 cups
Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)¼ cup

Caramel Sauce:

Half & half2 tablespoons
Butter4 tablespoons

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan: Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan thoroughly.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until fluffy and smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in the diced apples and nuts if using.
  5. Bake Cake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
  6. Make Caramel Sauce: About 30 minutes into baking, prepare the caramel by combining brown sugar, half & half, and butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir frequently until smooth and well blended, but do not boil.
  7. Add Caramel & Continue Baking: Remove cake from oven and pour the caramel sauce evenly over the top. Return the cake to the oven for another 10-15 minutes until the caramel bubbles and crackles, and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool & Serve: Let the cake cool at least 15 minutes before releasing from the pan and slicing.
