My boyfriend grew up in Kentucky so when came across this recipe looking for a bday treat I knew I had to try it.

These delicate cookies melt effortlessly on your tongue, making them an ideal treat for festive occasions or a cozy afternoon indulgence. Their rich, buttery dough is lovingly coated in powdered sugar, delivering a perfect balance of sweetness and crumbly texture.

Classic Snowball Cookies

Ingredients:

  • White flour — 500 grams
  • Iberian pork lard — 200 grams
  • White wine — 125 milliliters
  • Powdered sugar — 90 grams, plus extra for rolling
  • Salt — a pinch

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, blend together the flour, pork lard, white wine, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the mixture comes together into a smooth dough that’s soft but not sticky.
  2. Chill: Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This chilling step makes it easier to shape the cookies.
  3. Preheat Oven: Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Form and Bake: Remove the dough from the fridge. Roll it into small balls about 1 inch in diameter, placing them spaced about an inch apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the bottoms are lightly golden but the tops remain pale.
  5. Sugar Coat: While still warm, generously roll the cookies in powdered sugar to coat thoroughly. Allow them to cool on a wire rack. For an extra thick sugar layer, roll them again once cooled.
  6. Serve: Pair these classic snowball cookies with a warm cup of tea or coffee and savor every crumb!
