Crispy Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Skip the stovetop—this air fryer version of the classic grilled cheese offers unbeatable crunch and gooey melted cheese with almost no effort. It’s a fast, satisfying option for lunch or a cozy snack.
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Bread (your choice: sourdough, white, whole wheat, etc.) | 2 slices |
Cheese (cheddar, American, Swiss, mozzarella, or a combo) | 1–2 slices |
Butter (softened) or mayonnaise | As needed |
Optional Extras:
1. Preheat the Air Fryer
Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and let it preheat for 2–3 minutes. This step helps start crisping the sandwich right away.
2. Assemble Your Sandwich
Spread a thin layer of butter or mayo on one side of each slice of bread (mayo makes for a super crispy crust!).
Place one slice, buttered side down, on a plate. Add your cheese on top.
If you’re including extras like bacon or tomato, layer them over the cheese.
Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing up.
3. Air Fry the Sandwich
Gently place your sandwich in the air fryer basket. If your air fryer has room, you can cook two at once—just don’t overcrowd.
Cook at 375°F for 4–5 minutes.
Flip the sandwich using tongs and cook for another 2–3 minutes until both sides are golden and crispy and the cheese has melted perfectly.
4. Let It Rest & Serve
Transfer the sandwich to a cutting board and let it sit for 1 minute before slicing.
Cut diagonally for a classic look and serve warm with tomato soup, chips, or a fresh side salad.
