Instructions
1. Make the Filling
Cook the beef and onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until browned and tender, about 8–10 minutes, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper.
Add the extras: Drain excess fat, then let the mixture cool slightly. Stir in ketchup, mustard, and crumbled bacon.
2. Assemble the Bread
Preheat and prep: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll the French bread dough into a 12×8-inch rectangle.
Layer the filling: Spread the beef mixture evenly, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Top with chopped dill pickles and a layer of American cheese slices.
Roll and seal: Starting from a long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch seams and ends to seal, then place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
3. Bake
Egg wash and seeds: Brush the top with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake: Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and fully cooked.
4. Serve
Let cool slightly, then slice.
Serve warm with Thousand Island dressing for dipping.
