Beef and Potato Stuffed Roll with Cheese

This Cheesy Beef and Potato Stuffed Roll is a satisfying, handheld favorite that blends the cozy flavors of shepherd’s pie with the convenience of a pizza-style roll. Finely diced potatoes cook right alongside the beef, creating a rich, unified filling. Encased in golden, buttery dough and melted cheese, it’s an eye-catching option for casual dinners or party spreads.

Cheesy Beef and Potato Stuffed Roll

Ingredients

IngredientAmount
Ground beef1 lb (450 g)
Potatoes, peeled and finely diced2 medium
Onion, finely chopped1 small
Garlic, minced2 cloves
Paprika1 teaspoon
Black pepper½ teaspoon
Salt1 teaspoon (or to taste)
Dried oregano½ teaspoon
Olive oil1 tablespoon
Shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese1 cup (100 g)
Pizza or roll dough (store-bought or homemade)1 large
Melted butter1 tablespoon
Egg (for egg wash)1
Optional: Sesame seeds or dried herbsFor topping

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Aromatics
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent. Stir in the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.

Step 2: Brown the Beef and Potatoes
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up as it cooks. Stir in the diced potatoes, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cover and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

Step 3: Stir in the Cheese
When the filling is warm but no longer steaming, fold in the shredded cheese.
Tip: Letting the mixture cool slightly prevents the cheese from melting too soon and helps create a better stretch after baking.

Step 4: Fill the Dough
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Roll the dough into a large rectangle and spread the filling evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edges.

Step 5: Roll and Seal
Roll the dough up tightly, similar to a cinnamon roll. Pinch the seam and ends to seal, then place the roll seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 6: Brush and Bake
Whisk the egg and brush it over the top of the roll, then brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or dried herbs if desired. Bake for 22–25 minutes, until golden brown.

Step 7: Rest and Serve
Allow the roll to rest for 5 minutes so the filling can set. Slice and serve warm.
