French Yogurt Cake

This French Yogurt Cake is a beautifully simple dessert that’s soft, moist, and lightly sweet—perfect for both casual afternoons and elegant occasions. Made with creamy Greek yogurt and a touch of vanilla, it has a delicate crumb and pairs wonderfully with a light yogurt-cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

For the Cake:

IngredientQuantity
All-purpose flour1 ½ cups
Baking powder2 teaspoons
Fine salt¼ teaspoon
Granulated sugar1 cup
Greek yogurt (room temp)1 cup
Vegetable oil½ cup
Large eggs (room temp)3
Vanilla extract1 teaspoon

For the Frosting:

IngredientQuantity
Cream cheese (softened)6 ounces
Greek yogurt (room temp)1 cup
Powdered sugar1–1½ cups
Vanilla extract1 teaspoon
Fresh strawberriesOptional, for garnish

Instructions

Make the Cake:

  1. Preheat & Prepare Pan:
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch round cake pan with baking spray and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine sugar, Greek yogurt, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Whisk until everything is smooth and well blended.
  4. Combine Mixtures:
Slowly stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, whisking gently until no streaks of flour remain. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake tender.
  5. Bake:
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool:
Let the cake rest in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely. If needed, level the top with a serrated knife once fully cooled.

Make the Frosting:

  1. Beat Cream Cheese:
Using an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy (2–3 minutes).
  2. Add Remaining Ingredients:
Add Greek yogurt, powdered sugar (starting with 1 cup), and vanilla extract. Continue mixing until the frosting is fluffy and well combined. Adjust sweetness by adding more sugar if needed.
  3. Frost the Cake:
Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly across the top. Garnish with fresh strawberries or berries of your choice, if desired.
