My neighbor demanded I bring a double batch to the church fall festival and they were the absolute first thing to disappear. I can’t believe this is only 3 ingredients.

Southern 3-Ingredient Cheesy Lunchroom Straws

These easy Southern-style cheese straws turn three simple ingredients into a delicious, savory treat. Made with biscuit baking mix, sharp cheddar cheese, and milk, they bake into golden, fluffy straws with crisp edges and a rich cheesy flavor. Serve them fresh from the oven or let them cool for a tasty snack anytime.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups biscuit baking mix
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2/3 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. Combine the ingredients: Add the biscuit baking mix and shredded cheddar cheese to a large mixing bowl. Stir until the cheese is evenly distributed.
  3. Make the dough: Pour in the milk and mix gently until a thick dough comes together. Avoid overmixing to keep the straws tender.
  4. Shape the straws: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Roll or press it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick, then slice into thin strips.
  5. Prepare for baking: Arrange the strips on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little room between each one.
  6. Bake until golden: Bake for 10–14 minutes, or until the straws have risen and the edges turn a deep golden brown.
  7. Cool and serve: Let the cheese straws rest on the baking sheet for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature.
