The Famous Three-Envelope Roast

Three-Envelope Slow Cooker Roast
This classic Three-Envelope Roast is a slow-cooker favorite and often compared to a heartier, gravy-forward take on Mississippi pot roast. Italian dressing mix, Ranch seasoning, and brown gravy blend together to create a bold, savory flavor with a subtle tang. Mixing the seasonings with water before cooking forms a smooth sauce that evenly coats the meat as it cooks, preventing overly salty patches and producing a rich, silky gravy.
Ingredients
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Chuck roast | 3 lb |
| Water | 1 cup |
| Italian seasoning mix (dry) | 1 packet |
| Ranch seasoning mix (dry) | 1 packet |
| Brown gravy mix (dry) | 1 packet |
| Salt and black pepper | To taste |
Instructions
- Season the Roast: Sprinkle the chuck roast generously with salt and black pepper on all sides.
- Add to Slow Cooker: Place the seasoned beef in the bottom of the crockpot.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the Italian seasoning mix, Ranch seasoning mix, and brown gravy mix. Slowly add the water, whisking until the mixture is completely smooth.
- Cover the Meat: Pour the sauce evenly over the roast, ensuring the top and sides are well coated.
- Cook Low and Slow: Cover and cook on High for about 4 hours, or on Low for 8 hours for extra-tender results.
- Finish and Serve: Spoon some of the cooking juices over the roast during cooking if desired. Once the meat pulls apart easily with a fork, it’s ready to serve.
