Homemade Krispy Kreme–Style Donuts

Treat yourself to the irresistible, melt-in-your-mouth delight of homemade donuts inspired by the classic Krispy Kreme style. With this simple recipe, you can create soft, airy donuts topped with a smooth, sweet glaze—fresh from your own kitchen and just as satisfying as your favorite bakery version.
Ingredients
For the Donuts:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup lukewarm whole milk
- ¼ cup lukewarm water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 egg, at room temperature
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ¼ cup butter, softened
- A pinch of kosher salt
- Oil for frying
For the Glaze:
- 2 cups powdered (confectioners’) sugar
- ¼ cup lukewarm whole milk
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Proof the Yeast
In a bowl, combine the warm milk and water with a small amount of the sugar and yeast. Let the mixture rest until it becomes foamy and bubbly.
2. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, blend the flour, salt, and softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Form the Dough
Add the remaining sugar, egg, and activated yeast mixture to the flour blend. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth, soft, and elastic.
4. Let It Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and allow it to rise for about one hour, or until it doubles in size.
5. Shape the Donuts
Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into donut shapes. Set them aside to rise again until puffy.
6. Fry Until Golden
Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the donuts in batches, cooking each side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
7. Prepare the Glaze
Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, heavy cream, and vanilla until silky and smooth.
8. Coat the Donuts
While the donuts are still warm, dip them into the glaze or drizzle it over the top for that classic finish.
9. Enjoy
Serve fresh for the best flavor and texture—and savor every sweet bite!
