Soft Vanilla Glazed Sugar Cookies

These soft, pillowy sugar cookies are topped with a smooth vanilla glaze that melts right into every bite. Lightly golden on the outside and tender inside, they’re perfect with a glass of milk or afternoon coffee.
Ingredients
For the Cookies
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup sour cream (for extra softness)
For the Vanilla Glaze
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat Oven
Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Cream Butter & Sugar
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
4. Add Wet Ingredients
Mix in the egg and vanilla. Stir in sour cream until smooth.
5. Combine
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients. Mix just until combined—do not overmix.
6. Shape & Bake
Scoop 2-tablespoon portions of dough onto the baking sheet. Slightly flatten the tops.
Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden but centers remain soft.
Cool completely before glazing.
7. Make the Glaze
Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Adjust milk for desired thickness.
8. Glaze & Set
Spread glaze over cooled cookies. Let set 20–30 minutes before serving.
