3 Ingredients Buttermilk Baked Potatoes

These 3-Ingredient Buttermilk Baked Potatoes put a fresh spin on a familiar favorite. The potatoes are baked in two stages—first on their own, then with buttermilk and butter—so the inside turns extra tender while the skins become lightly crisp and golden. The end result is a smooth, creamy center with a gentle tang and a richer flavor than standard baked potatoes.

3-Ingredient Buttermilk Baked Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium russet potatoes (about 900 g)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Rinse and dry the potatoes, then poke each one several times with a fork.

Tip: This allows steam to escape while baking and helps prevent splitting.

Step 2: Initial Bake
Arrange the potatoes on a parchment-lined baking tray and bake for 35–40 minutes, until they start to soften but still feel slightly firm in the middle.

Step 3: Add Buttermilk and Butter
Take the potatoes out of the oven. Slice a slit along the top of each and gently press the ends to open them. Pour buttermilk over and into each potato, then drizzle with the melted butter.

Tip: Buttermilk adds a subtle tang and enhances the creamy texture inside.

Step 4: Final Bake
Return the potatoes to the oven and continue baking for 10–15 minutes, until most of the liquid is absorbed and the skins develop a light golden color.

Step 5: Rest and Serve
Allow the potatoes to rest for about 5 minutes before serving so the texture settles and the moisture spreads evenly.
