Melania Trump Calls on ABC to Condemn Jimmy Kimmel, Accusing Him of Using Divisive and Hostile Rhetoric

Melania Trump is calling on ABC to respond to remarks made by Jimmy Kimmel, saying his comments promote division and negativity in the country. The controversy followed a segment on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” aired shortly before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was disrupted by a shooting incident. During the monologue, Kimmel made a joke involving First Lady Melania Trump that drew backlash from many supporters of Donald Trump.
In a statement posted on X, Melania Trump criticized Kimmel’s style of commentary and argued that television networks should be more accountable for the content they broadcast. She said his remarks about her family went beyond comedy and accused ABC of continuing to support him despite repeated controversies.
Representatives for Jimmy Kimmel and ABC have not publicly responded to the remarks.
Kimmel has frequently criticized Donald Trump on his late-night program and has also commented on Melania Trump in recent months, including jokes about the Amazon documentary “Melania.” He has also questioned public statements made by the former first lady during past monologues.
The 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner ended early after reports of gunfire outside the venue prompted security officials to evacuate attendees, including Donald and Melania Trump. Authorities later detained the suspect, and Trump announced plans to reschedule the event.
ABC had previously suspended Kimmel in 2025 following criticism over comments related to the death of political commentator Charlie Kirk. After returning to the air, Kimmel said he never intended to minimize the seriousness of the tragedy.
