Found this in my great aunt’s recipe box from 1962 and made it for Mother’s Day brunch. My mom actually cried.

🍎 Slow Cooker Apple Brown Betty ✨
This classic dessert is the kind of warm, cozy comfort food that never goes out of style. As the apples slowly simmer, they become soft and flavorful while the buttery cinnamon crumb mixture absorbs all the sweet juices, creating a rich topping with a delicious caramel-like flavor straight from the slow cooker.
It’s simple, comforting, and fills the kitchen with the smell of cinnamon and baked apples while it cooks.
Ingredients:
• 6 medium firm apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
• 1½ cups plain dry breadcrumbs
• 1 cup packed light brown sugar
• ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
• 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Directions:
Peel, core, and slice the apples into ¼-inch thick slices.
Tip: Firm apples hold up best during slow cooking and stay tender without becoming overly soft.
In one bowl, combine the melted butter and breadcrumbs until evenly coated. In another bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
Tip: Coating the breadcrumbs well helps them become golden, buttery, and flavorful as the dessert cooks.
Layer the buttered breadcrumbs, sliced apples, and cinnamon sugar mixture inside the slow cooker, finishing with a breadcrumb layer on top.
Gently press each layer down slightly so the dessert cooks evenly and the flavors blend together.
Cover and cook on LOW for 3½–4½ hours.
The dessert is ready when the apples are tender and the topping looks rich and lightly caramelized around the edges.
Allow the dessert to rest for 10–15 minutes before serving.
This short resting time helps the juices thicken slightly and creates a richer texture.
Serve warm by itself or topped with vanilla ice cream for an extra comforting treat 🤍
