Instructions
Prepare the Batter
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and lightly flour a square or rectangular baking pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix only until everything is incorporated.
Divide the batter evenly between two bowls. Stir the cocoa powder into one portion until fully blended.
Assemble the Cake
Drop alternating spoonfuls of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared pan. Use a knife or spatula to gently swirl the batters together, creating a marbled pattern.
Add the Topping
Combine the powdered sugar and granulated sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the surface of the batter.
Bake
Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
