My grandmother wrote this down on an index card in 1962 and it survived decades of summer gatherings. Three items and the pan is always scraped clean.

This Oven-Baked Beef Kensington brings together seasoned ground beef and sweet baked beans beneath a generous layer of melted cheddar cheese for a quick, comforting casserole. Simple to throw together, it bakes up hot, rich, and bubbling in under half an hour.

Oven-Baked 3-Ingredient Beef Kensington

Ingredients

  • Ground beef – 1½ pounds
  • Baked beans – 2 (16-ounce) cans
  • Shredded cheddar cheese – 2 cups

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Preheat and prep – Set your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch glass baking dish.
  2. Brown the beef – In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it’s browned throughout, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain away any excess grease.
  3. Combine and layer – Stir the baked beans into the skillet with the beef, mixing until they’re evenly distributed. Spoon the mixture into your prepared baking dish and spread it out into an even layer.
  4. Top with cheese – Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the beef and bean mixture.
  5. Bake and rest – Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the casserole is piping hot and the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and lightly golden around the edges. Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving warm.
