5-Ingredient Oven Vintage Salisbury Steak Bake

Tender ground beef patties are baked beneath a rich mushroom and onion gravy in this classic comfort-food dish. The covered baking method keeps the patties moist while the savory sauce thickens in the pan, creating plenty of gravy to spoon over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1½ cups water

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 350°F. Shape the ground beef into 4–6 oval patties and arrange them in a single layer in a 9×13-inch glass baking dish.
  2. Prepare the gravy: In a medium bowl, whisk together the onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, brown gravy mix, and water until the mixture is well combined and mostly smooth.
  3. Cover the patties: Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the uncooked beef patties, making sure they are generously coated.
  4. Bake covered: Tightly cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  5. Finish uncovered: Carefully remove the foil and continue baking for another 15–20 minutes, until the beef is completely cooked and the gravy is hot and bubbling.
  6. Rest and serve: Let the Salisbury steaks rest for about 5 minutes. Spoon the hot mushroom gravy over the patties and serve immediately.
