Simple Southern 4-Ingredient Biscuit Cobbler

Cobbler has always been a classic in Southern kitchens—traditionally made with whatever fruit was on hand and topped with a simple biscuit-style crust. It’s rustic, easy, and all about comfort. This version keeps things even simpler for busy days, using just fruit, sugar, baking mix, and butter. It’s the kind of dessert you can throw together quickly while juggling other tasks, yet it still tastes homemade and satisfying.
Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream—the mix of cold and creamy with warm, syrupy fruit is hard to resist. It also makes a great ending to a casual dinner like grilled chicken or baked pork chops. For brunch, it pairs nicely with eggs and bacon, and when hosting, it works well with coffee or tea alongside fresh berries.
Southern Biscuit Cobbler (4 Ingredients)
Ingredients
- 4 cups fruit (fresh or frozen; peaches, berries, or a combination)
- ½ cup granulated sugar, plus 1–2 teaspoons for topping
- 2 cups biscuit baking mix (such as Bisquick or similar)
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- Add the fruit to the dish, sprinkle with ½ cup sugar, and gently toss to combine.
- In a separate bowl, mix the baking mix with the melted butter until a thick, slightly crumbly dough forms.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dough over the fruit, leaving a few gaps. Sprinkle a little extra sugar on top if desired.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling at the edges. If it browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes before serving so it can thicken slightly. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
