Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins

There’s something undeniably comforting about cinnamon sugar treats—the kind with that sweet, spiced coating that feels like a warm memory. Now imagine bringing that classic flavor into a soft, homemade muffin—no frying needed. These cinnamon sugar muffins have a light, fluffy texture with a buttery, sweet coating that makes them hard to resist.

For the Muffins

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Topping

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  1. Preheat & prepare
Set oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin or line with paper liners.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  3. Mix wet ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter, both sugars, eggs, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine
Gently mix dry ingredients into wet until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Bake
Fill muffin cups about ¾ full. Bake for 15–18 minutes, until golden and set.
  6. Cool slightly
Let muffins rest for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
  7. Add topping
Mix sugar and cinnamon. Brush warm muffins with melted butter, then roll or dip in the mixture.
  • Use room-temperature ingredients for better texture.
  • Nutmeg adds that classic bakery-style flavor.
  • Lightly brushing with butter helps the coating stick without making muffins soggy.
  • Best enjoyed warm, but can be reheated briefly if needed.
