Heaven on Earth Cake (Cherry Angel Trifle)

This no-bake Cherry Angel Trifle—fondly known as Heaven on Earth Cake—offers layers of pillowy angel food cake, velvety vanilla-yogurt pudding, and sweet cherry pie filling. It’s a refreshingly light dessert that’s perfect for summer or any time you need a fast, crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

IngredientAmount
Angel food cake (store-bought or homemade)1–2 cakes
Instant vanilla pudding mix1 package (3.4 oz.)
Cold milk1½ cups
Plain Greek yogurt1 cup
Cherry pie filling (divided)1 can (21 oz.)
Whipped topping, thawed1 container (8 oz.)
Sliced almonds (optional)As desired (toasted, optional)

Directions

  1. Cube the Cake:
Cut the angel food cake(s) into bite-sized pieces and set them aside.
  2. Mix the Pudding Layer:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until the mixture thickens slightly. Gently fold in the Greek yogurt until smooth and creamy.
  3. Assemble the First Layer:
Spread half of the cubed angel food cake into an even layer in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spoon about two-thirds of the cherry pie filling over the cake and spread it out evenly.
  4. Add the Second Layer:
Distribute the remaining cake cubes over the cherry layer. Pour the vanilla-yogurt pudding mixture over the top and spread it out carefully to fill in all the spaces.
  5. Top and Garnish:
Evenly spread the whipped topping over the pudding layer using a spatula. Drizzle the remaining cherry pie filling over the top for a decorative finish. Sprinkle with sliced almonds for a bit of crunch—toast them beforehand if desired for extra depth of flavor.
  6. Chill Before Serving:
Refrigerate the dessert for at least 3 hours, or overnight if possible. This allows the layers to set and the flavors to blend for the best taste and texture.
