All-purpose flour2 tablespoons
Beef or chicken broth2 cups
Heavy cream½ cup
Worcestershire sauce1 teaspoon
Salt and pepperTo taste
Fresh parsley, choppedFor garnish

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, and ground veal. Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onions, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Pour this mixture over the meat and gently mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  2. Step 2: Shape & Brown: Using your hands, roll the meat mixture into meatballs of your desired size. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil. Place the meatballs in the skillet and brown them on all sides to create a nice crust.
  3. Step 3: Prepare the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes to create a lightly golden roux. Gradually pour in the beef or chicken broth, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Continue to cook and stir until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Step 4: Combine & Serve: Gently place the browned meatballs into the gravy. Let them simmer for a few minutes to absorb the flavors and heat through. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Serve the meatballs and gravy over cooked pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.
