Slow Cooker 3-Ingredient Cola Ham

This slow cooker 3-ingredient cola ham is the kind of effortless recipe my Uncle Joe always appreciates—minimal prep, rich flavor, and it fills the house with that comforting Sunday dinner aroma. He’s been making a version of this for years, and the first time I tried it, I was convinced it had been carefully basted and glazed for hours.
The secret lies in the simple mix of cola and brown sugar, which slowly cooks down into a thick, glossy glaze. It coats the ham in a sweet, sticky layer that makes the dish taste much more complex than it actually is. As it cooks, the meat becomes incredibly tender—so soft it nearly pulls apart with a fork. It’s ideal for busy days when you want something easy but still impressive enough to serve guests.
Serve it alongside creamy mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, or rice to soak up the flavorful juices. For a bit of freshness, add a green vegetable like roasted green beans, steamed broccoli, or a crisp salad. Leftovers work wonderfully in sandwiches, omelets, fried rice, or quesadillas. Be sure to save some of the cooking liquid to drizzle over the meat or to keep leftovers moist.
Slow Cooker Cola Ham 🍖🥤
Ingredients
- 4–6 lb fully cooked ham (bone-in or boneless, unsliced)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
- 2 cups cola (regular, not diet)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ham
Pat the ham dry and place it into the slow cooker with the cut side facing down. Trim slightly if needed so it fits properly.
2. Add the Sugar
Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top and sides, pressing it gently so it adheres to the surface.
3. Add the Cola
Carefully pour the cola into the bottom of the slow cooker, avoiding washing the sugar off the ham. The liquid should come up about 1–2 inches along the sides.
4. Cook
Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the ham is fully heated and very tender.
5. Rest the Ham
Transfer the ham to a cutting board, loosely cover with foil, and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Skim off any excess fat from the cooking liquid if needed.
6. Optional Glaze Step
Spoon some of the thickened, sweet juices over the ham as it rests. You can also slice or shred the meat and return it to the slow cooker to soak up more flavor.
7. Serve and Store
Slice or shred the ham and spoon some of the juices over each serving. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 4 days, keeping some of the liquid with the meat to maintain moisture.
