This Slow Cooker Amish Sausage Chowder is a classic “set-it-and-forget-it” meal that delivers rich, comforting flavor with minimal effort. As the smoked sausage cooks at the base, its savory juices slowly blend into the potatoes and corn above. The end result is a creamy, hearty soup that tastes like it came straight from a warm farmhouse kitchen—simple to make, yet deeply satisfying.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb smoked sausage (sliced into ½-inch rounds)
  • 3 cups potatoes (peeled and diced)
  • 2 cups frozen sweet corn
  • 3 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1½ cups half-and-half (or whole milk)

How to Make Slow Cooker Amish Sausage Chowder:

Step 1: Create the Base
Arrange the sliced smoked sausage in an even layer at the bottom of the slow cooker.

Tip: For extra depth of flavor, you can quickly brown the sausage in a skillet before adding it. This step is optional but enhances the overall taste.

Step 2: Layer the Vegetables
Add the corn over the sausage, then layer the diced potatoes on top.

Tip: Keep the potato pieces uniform (about ½-inch) so they cook evenly and become tender at the same rate.

Step 3: Cook Slowly
Pour the chicken broth over the ingredients, making sure the potatoes are mostly submerged.
Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or on HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Step 4: Add Creaminess
Once the potatoes are soft, stir in the half-and-half or milk. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed—since the sausage already adds saltiness, a bit of black pepper may be enough.

Step 5: Thicken the Chowder
Cover again and cook on HIGH for an additional 20–30 minutes. This allows the potatoes to release their starch, blending with the dairy to create a rich, creamy texture. 🍲
