Classic Hamburger Hash

This Classic Hamburger Hash is a comforting one-pan meal—like combining all the best elements of a cheeseburger into a hearty skillet dish. Soft, tender potatoes, seasoned ground beef, and melted cheddar come together for a simple, budget-friendly dinner that’s both filling and full of flavor. Parboiling the potatoes first helps keep them soft inside while allowing the edges to crisp up nicely in the pan.
Classic Hamburger Hash
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 3 medium Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 medium white onion, chopped
- 2 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Green onions or parsley (optional, for garnish)
How to Make Classic Hamburger Hash:
Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes
Add the potato pieces to a pot of salted water and boil for 5–8 minutes, until just tender but not falling apart. Drain and set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Beef
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef with the chopped onion and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion becomes soft. Drain off any excess fat.
Step 3: Crisp and Season
Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Add the cooked potatoes along with the olive oil, then cook for several minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes start to brown and develop crispy edges.
Step 4: Melt the Cheese
Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and evenly combined.
Step 5: Serve
Serve hot, topped with chopped green onions or parsley if desired for a fresh touch.
