Ingredients

IngredientAmount
Warm water (110°F / 45°C)2 cups
Granulated sugar⅔ cup
Active dry yeast1½ tablespoons
Salt1½ teaspoons
Vegetable oil¼ cup
Bread flour6 cups

Directions

Prepare the Yeast
In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, stirring until dissolved. Sprinkle in the yeast and let it rest for 5–10 minutes until foamy and activated.

Make the Dough
Add the salt and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture. Gradually stir in the bread flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough begins to form.

Knead the Dough
Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

First Rise
Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl, turning it once to coat all sides. Cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Loaves
Punch the dough down gently and knead briefly. Divide into two equal portions and shape each into a loaf. Place the dough into greased 9×5-inch loaf pans.

Second Rise
Cover the pans and allow the dough to rise again for about 30 minutes, until the tops rise slightly above the edges of the pans.

Bake the Bread
Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for around 30 minutes, or until the loaves are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.

Cool and Enjoy
Let the loaves cool in the pans for several minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy this soft homemade bread warm from the oven, toasted for breakfast, or layered with your favorite sandwich fillings.
