Instructions

Step 1: Brown the beef
In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned and crumbly. Drain excess fat if needed, then transfer the beef to a slow cooker.

Step 2: Add aromatics and sauce
Add chopped onion, garlic, and celery to the slow cooker. In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ground ginger, black pepper, and beef broth. Pour over the beef and vegetables.

Step 3: Slow cook
Cover and cook on LOW for about 6 hours, or until the vegetables are tender and the flavors have melded together.

Step 4: Add fresh vegetables
About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the cabbage, carrots, and water chestnuts. Turn heat to HIGH and continue cooking until everything is heated through.

Step 5: Prepare noodles
While the slow cooker finishes, cook the chow mein noodles according to package directions. Drain well.
