👩🍳 Instructions
Preheat
Set the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
Prepare the Rolls
Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package horizontally. Arrange the bottom half in the prepared baking dish.
Assemble the Sliders
Layer half of the Swiss cheese over the rolls, followed by the ham, turkey, and the remaining Swiss cheese. Place the top half of the rolls over the filling.
Add the Topping
Whisk together the melted butter, egg, and black pepper. Brush the mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
Bake
Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the tops are golden brown. If the rolls begin to brown too quickly, loosely cover them with foil during the final minutes of baking.
Finish and Serve
Remove the sliders from the oven and lightly dust the tops with powdered sugar. Serve warm with raspberry or strawberry jam, or maple syrup, for the traditional Monte Cristo flavor.
💡 Tips
- Cover the sliders loosely with foil if the tops begin browning before the cheese has fully melted.
- While optional, the powdered sugar and fruit preserves provide the signature sweet-and-savory taste that makes a Monte Cristo so memorable.
