My neighbor dropped a batch of these off and I ate the entire tin standing at the kitchen counter. Only 4 ingredients to make the most addictive bite

These crispy cheese straws are a classic savory treat with timeless appeal. Made with only a few basic ingredients, they bake into buttery, cheesy bites with a light crunch and a subtle touch of cayenne pepper for extra flavor. They’re the type of snack that quickly disappears at parties, holiday gatherings, and family events, often leaving guests asking how they were made.
Serve them on a platter with dips, deviled eggs, fresh vegetables, or sliced meats for an easy appetizer spread. They pair nicely with iced tea, lemonade, or white wine and work just as well for celebrations as they do for casual snacking.
Southern 4-Ingredient Cheese Straws
Ingredients
- 2 cups finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper, plus extra for topping if desired
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and cheddar cheese together until smooth and creamy.
Stir in the cayenne pepper until evenly distributed.
Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms. If needed, use your hands to fully combine the dough.
Roll small portions of dough into thin ropes about 3–6 inches long and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
Lightly flatten the tops if desired and sprinkle with a little extra cayenne pepper.
Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden and crisp around the edges.
Let them cool for several minutes before serving or storing in an airtight container.
