Lazy Sunday Bake: Just 4 ingredients. I make it when I want dinner handled hours ahead so I can enjoy the warm evening on the porch.

This 4-Ingredient Lazy Sunday Puff Casserole is the kind of easy comfort-food dish that practically makes itself.

Frozen potato puffs are coated in a creamy mushroom and cheddar sauce, topped with even more cheese, and baked until the edges are bubbling and the top is crisp and golden. The inside stays soft, cheesy, and savory while the top develops that irresistible crunchy texture.

With only four ingredients, it’s perfect for busy weeknights, lazy Sundays, or anytime you want a warm casserole without a lot of prep.

4-Ingredient Lazy Sunday Puff Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 bag frozen mini potato puffs or tater tots, 28 to 32 ounces, kept frozen
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup, 10.5 ounces
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk or 2% milk

Directions

1. Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

2. Make the creamy cheese sauce

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.

Stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, reserving the remaining 1/2 cup for the topping.

3. Add the potato puffs

Add the frozen potato puffs directly to the cheese mixture.

There is no need to thaw them first.

Gently fold everything together until the potato puffs are evenly coated in the creamy sauce.

4. Assemble the casserole

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.

Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

5. Bake

Bake uncovered for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbling around the edges, hot in the center, and deeply golden on top.

For an extra-crispy finish, you can broil the casserole for 1 to 3 minutes at the end. Watch it closely so the cheese does not burn.

6. Rest and serve

Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes.

This helps the creamy filling thicken slightly and makes the casserole easier to scoop.

Serve warm and enjoy the combination of crispy golden potato puffs, melted cheddar, and creamy mushroom sauce.
