Ingredients

IngredientQuantity
Salted pretzels, crushed into coarse crumbs3 cups (6 ounces)
Unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for greasing1 cup (2 sticks)
Caramel sauce, thick and store-bought or homemade1 1/4 cups
Semi-sweet chocolate chips1 cup

Step-by-Step Directions

Step 1: Prepare the oven and baking dish

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9 × 13-inch glass baking dish with softened butter, making sure to coat the bottom and corners to help prevent sticking.

Step 2: Crush the pretzels

Place the salted pretzels in a large zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy pan. Aim for coarse crumbs with a few small chunks remaining to give the crust extra crunch.

Step 3: Mix the pretzel crust

Combine the crushed pretzels and melted butter in a medium bowl. Stir well until the crumbs are evenly coated and the mixture is slightly glossy.

Step 4: Press the crust into the pan

Transfer the pretzel mixture to the prepared baking dish. Press it firmly into an even layer using your hands or the flat bottom of a measuring cup, making sure the crust is compact and reaches the edges.

Step 5: Bake the crust

Bake for 8–10 minutes, until the crust is lightly fragrant and beginning to set. Remove the dish from the oven and place it on a heat-resistant surface. Keep the oven on.

Step 6: Add the caramel layer

While the pretzel crust is still hot, pour the caramel sauce evenly over the surface. Use a spatula to spread it gently into the corners without disturbing the crust underneath.

Step 7: Bake the caramel

Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 10–12 minutes, until the caramel begins to bubble around the edges and thickens slightly.

Step 8: Add the chocolate chips

Remove the hot dish from the oven and immediately scatter the semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the caramel. Allow them to sit undist
