  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 large can (29 oz) peaches or 3–4 cups fresh peaches

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in a baking dish and allow it to melt in the oven.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk until mostly smooth.

Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter without stirring.

Spoon the peaches and their juice evenly over the batter, again without mixing.

Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden and the cobbler is bubbling around the edges.

Let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Tips

  • Real butter gives the best flavor and richness
  • If using fresh peaches, mix them with a little sugar and water first
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra warmth
  • Sprinkle a little sugar on top before baking for a lightly crisp finish
