This Oven-Baked Spring Pea Shell Pasta is a simple, one-pan meal that creates a creamy, comforting dish without needing to stand over the stove. As it bakes, the pasta releases starch into the broth and cream, naturally forming a smooth, velvety sauce. The peas cook right in the dish, bringing a fresh burst of flavor, while Parmesan melts through everything for a rich, savory finish.

Oven-Baked Spring Pea Shell Pasta

Ingredients

  • 8 oz medium pasta shells (dry)
  • 1½ cups frozen green peas
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. Prepare the baking dish
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish. Spread the dry pasta evenly across the dish and top with the frozen peas.

2. Combine the liquid mixture
In a bowl, whisk together the broth, cream, Parmesan, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

3. First bake (covered)
Pour the liquid over the pasta. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes, allowing the pasta to soften and absorb the liquid.

4. Second bake (uncovered)
Remove the foil and gently stir. Return the dish to the oven uncovered for another 10–15 minutes, until the sauce thickens and becomes creamy.

5. Rest before serving
Let it sit for about 5 minutes so the sauce can set and coat the pasta evenly before serving.
