Pour whole milk over uncooked white rice along with four simple ingredients in the slow cooker for a cozy dessert I turn to whenever I’m unsure what to make.

This Slow Cooker Amish Rice Pudding is a simple, traditional dessert that transforms everyday ingredients into something rich and creamy. As it cooks gently, the rice softens and naturally thickens the milk into a smooth, custard-like texture. With hints of cinnamon and vanilla, it’s a cozy, comforting dish that comes together with minimal effort.

Slow Cooker Amish Rice Pudding

Ingredients

  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup white rice (uncooked, short or medium grain)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Base
Lightly butter a 4–6 quart slow cooker. Spread the uncooked rice evenly across the bottom.

Step 2: Make the Mixture
In a bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth and fully blended.

Step 3: Combine and Cook
Pour the mixture over the rice in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours, until the rice is soft and the mixture has thickened.

Step 4: Stir Near the End
During the last hour of cooking, give it a stir once or twice to prevent the rice from sticking and to keep the texture even.

Step 5: Let It Rest
Turn off the heat and allow the pudding to sit, covered, for 15–20 minutes so it can thicken further.
